Tour de Lumbini, 4-6th May, 2012



Tour de Lumbini is a cycle rally organized on the special occasion of Budhajayanti. It was a 3 and half days event, it started from Bhagwan pau (Swoyambhu). More than 60 participants attended the rally and many people were present at the venue to show solidarity. The cyclists pedaled nearly 300 kms from Kathmandu to Lumbini; the birthplace of Buddha. Cyclists from Kathmandu, Pokhara joined hands for this cause. The enthusiasm and must do attitude of youths as well as experienced old folks made this tour a successful event.

Getting Ready for Tour de Lumbini ?


Those who are participating on the cycle rally, important things to remember:


What to Carry ?
  1. Helmets and Gloves, padded gloves means less pain.
  2. Carry filled Water bottle / Water Pouch as we know it's hot during day time
  3. Trousers / Half Pants for cycling would be better if you don't have cycling dress
  4. Carrying chocolate as energy bar will be handy for you 
  5. Tooth brush (with or without paste), 
  6. Sunscreen ( if you don't want sun burn)
  7. Headlamp or torch ( Will be always handy)
  8. Cycle tools (including pump,extra tube, if you have one)
  9. Mosquito repellent cream ( if you have and don't have a good relation with mosquitoes)
  10. I-pod and other gadgets (Not allowed to use while riding)
  11. Raincoat (High Possibility of Rain by weather forcast)
  12. Cameras both still and movie (to capture the lifetime moment)
  13. Hand Towel,
  14. if Carrying a bag please use a two sided ones.


Please obey the following Rules for your own safety:
  • Helmets and Gloves is compulsory
  • Cycle on single line on the HIGHWAY
  • Don't try to overtake on the turnings
  • Don't use ipods or other gadgets during rides
In the long ride, water and food are most important. Our GOLDEN RULEZ!!...
  • Eat before you are Hungry, 
  • Drink before you are thirsty and 
  • Change gears before you need to....
This will all help you maintain your energy levels and enjoy the ride better....keep your tank full remember even vehicle does not run on empty tank!!!


There will be guides and volunteers ready for you help, your baggage will be kept on the bus. 


Other Recommendations: 
Using Gel Pads, or Padded Underwear will reduce pain on the ass, Quick Dry t-shirts, Water Pouch are also recommended.

Cycle for Light 
Date: 22 March (Thursday), Time: 7am onwards Venue: Patan Durbar Square

Cycle Rally 2011 at Patan Durbar Square


You can be one of the 500 cyclist who will ride their bicycles covering 11 kilometers to ensure that the Bagmati Bridge area is Lit with LED solar lights.


Laxmi Cares, a registered NGO and a social NGO and a social initiative of employees of Laxmi Bank, is organizing the "Laxmi Care Annual Mountain Bike Rally" in lieu with it's 'Go Green' campaign. Formulated with the aim of bringing constructive impacts in the community by working towards certain causes, Laxmi Cares has worked in partnership with various implementing agencies that provide experience and expertise in the various social programs that the NGO chooses to undertake.











After conquering the Patan Durbar Square with LED solar lights, Laxmi Cares is moving on to the Bagmati Bridge.The rally will begin from Patan Durbar Square and conclude at Saint Xavier's Godavari School, Godavari. The funds raised from the event will be utilized to intall 14 Solar Street Lights at Bagmati Bridge, Thapathali.

Date: March 22nd, Thursday (Ghode Jatra)
Route : Patan Durbar Square to Saint Xavier's Godavari School, Godavari
Distance : 12 kms


Begins at 7am (Patan Durbar Square)
Ends at 2pm (Saint Xavier's Godavari School)
Transportation to Langankhel Bus Park from Godavari available after 11:30 am


A. Entry Fee: 1,000 per person (includes lunch, t-shirt, water, refreshments, transportation from Godavari, access to concert to be held inside Godavari School)
B. Entry Fee: 1,500 (includes all of the above and a mountain bike on hire for the day)
